Did the Burst Lawsuits Cause a "Lost" Announcement at MacWorld?
Wednesday night's episode of "Lost" is, over 24 hours after air time, still unavailable for purchase. Here is the support email Apple sent me explaining or rather "not explaining" why:
Uhhh, wait, the ability to download "Lost" the day after it airs was announced Last October.
So, why would "Lost" be unavailable now? I can think of two possible reasons. Maybe it's because Apple is working on the rumored, links below, video service and that's causing the issue:
I can't help but wonder, is it possible that Apple had something ready to be deployed at Macworld and the Burst.com lawsuits derailed it? Apple sued Burst the week before the keynote. UPDATE Looks likely, and Cringley predicted it 7 days ago.
Another, albeit somewhat less interesting possibility is that the Burst.com dispute itself preventing Apple from putting up new episodes. If that is the case, why doesn't the email say anything about pending litigation.
I haven't checked to see if other shows have been effected, so I suppose it could be that only "Lost" is effected, but I doubt it and we'll know soon enough.
None of this changes the fact that I worked late on Wednesday because I thought I would be able to download "Lost". I'm Jonesing big-time. And I'm not the only one.http://www.blogger.com/img/gl.link.gif
Missing Lost Episode 10
UPDATE finally went on sale at the iTunes Music Store sometime yesterday. I bought it, grudgingly.

The Keynote was different than planned, because of supply issues according to this.
Dear Martin,
We apologize that any new episodes of Lost have not shown up for purchase on the iTunes Music Store.
Apple does not comment on rumors about decisions, products, programs, or promotions that Apple has not officially announced.
By withholding comment, Apple hopes to protect customers from making decisions based on information that is incomplete, inaccurate, or subject to change before the formal announcement. Apple believes this is the best way to ensure that all customers are treated fairly.
Sincerely,
iTunes Music Store Support

Yes, you can buy current episodes, and you can buy them the day after they are broadcast.

Apple Posted Season 2 episode 10 of Lost this morning on iTMS.
I have been going to "Martin Rigby for a year, wondering where the Martin we all knew and loved was hiding. Now I've found Switch blog and I know.
